Tribal Turquoise Creations

Heidi Simon is a self-taught Mi’kmaq jewelry designer/creator from Elsipogtog First Nation. Growing up in her family, Heidi was surrounded by artists, painters, musicians, writers, beaders & leatherworks.

In the last 3 years, Heidi has returned to her creative roots and is designing, a mix of traditional and contemporary Native jewelry; mixing quills with Swarovski crystals and Wampum beads with Swarovski crystals. Heidi has been able to incorporate the traditional double motive curve of the Wabanaki people into her wire wrapping (arrowhead necklaces). As well as incorporate the Traditional Medicine Wheel colours into her earrings and necklaces. She has designed a signature four-colour charm and incorporates this selectively into some of her pieces.

Her collection consists of handcrafted necklaces, earrings, leather medicine pouches, authentic dream-catchers with turquoise stone in the web, leather key chains, headbands, feather hair-clips, and leather bracelets. Most of her earring’s hooks are sterling silver and a third of her works are completely done in sterling silver. (Slowing converting completely to sterling silver). This collection uses real turquoise stones, amethyst stones, stone arrowheads, deer hide, snakeskin, various bone pendants and beads, buffalo horn beads, porcupine quills, Wampum beads, various shell pendants and beads, feathers, glass beading beads with medicine wheel colours and fire colours (no acrylic or plastic is used in any pieces).
